MONKEY MAGIC (1961 'HAVOC IN HEAVEN' ANIMATION)

“Let hundreds of flowers blossom and hundreds of schools of thought contend"

Havoc in Heaven was made between 1961-1964 by the Wan Bros. The film, based on the early chapters of Journey to the West, is a delightfully choreographed and beautifully laid out film, rich and vibrant in both color and action. Can you get an English translation of this classic on Region 2 DVD? Can you heck. But you can watch a fan subtitled version over at You Tube. Viva la televisión revolución.

Sure, but does it have the sexual tension of the strangely feminine Tripitakas' encounters with the local girls? Or the sideburns? Or somebody shouting 'Pigsy!!' every five minutes?

It seems like the subtitles on YouTube are different from the ones on my wiki. No matter though, they seem good too.

If you like old Chinese animation, I've also fansubbed Princess Iron Fan. It's not as good as Uproar in Heaven, but pretty cool anyway.

I found Uproar in Heaven on http://asiandvdclub.org/login.php - the one with english subtitles (thanx!). But this movie doesn't have Pigsy - does anyone know what that one is called? Sun Wukong looks almost the same in Uproar is he did in the one with Pigsy as far as I can remember ...

the Havoc in Heaven is adopted only from a very small portion (the begining) of the Journey to the West. The Journey to the West novel itself is 2 third of the length of Peace and War.
